F is for Faith

For the second year I decided to participate in the A-Z Blogging Challenge.  Each April bloggers write for 26 days (Sundays off). Each day is a consecutive letter of the alphabet.

Today is April 7th   and the  Fabulous letter F

This piece is  six stanzas of Haiku.

Inspired by a friend’s circumstances and helped along with prompts from a challenge.

When her faith had died

When her faith had died,

she hoped he would not fail her,

but as time went on,

**

Their life continued

his voice like a trumpet’s blare

sent out warning notes

**

Her heart drummed loudly

she wondered if he was true

one more chance she gave

**

Watchful eyes waited

she sensed his interest fade

taut violin strings

**

Time passed so slowly

his flute shrilled piercing her soul

powerless she wept

**

Luck found her at last

the time had come to leave him

when her faith had died.

**

Kinda sad that one is.

Looking forward to your Fabrications

Have you ever written a story or poem from a prompt?

  1. Great haiku Sue! And I do write from prompts from time to time 🙂

  2. Lovely, Sue – heartrendingly lovely!

You evoke such deep emotions with so few words! I love how each stanza mentions a different musical instrument, except the last one–which creates a sense of loss in its own way.
I’m not that great at prompts though. I have so much in my head that needs writing, it seems prompts only get in the way! I do them, and get words, but then set them aside and jump into my story world. 🙂

My weekly writing group works on prompts so I incorporate them into my writing. We get points 😀
this piece was written for a friend going through a bad break up

Sad indeed, very poignant. I have written from a prompt, but I found it wasn’t helpful to me as a fiction writer. Prompts seem to tap the work side of my brain rather than the creative side. They feel more like a job assignment than an opportunity to create story. I’m a careful writer, but I write everyday, am never short of ideas and have never had writer’s block. The blank page is prompt enough, I suppose.
